Power, a fantastic work of Russell’s extended bibliography. Written just before the start of WW2, the reader, if rudimentarily familiar with the political psychology of that time, will notice Russell’s observation of events and socio-political matters leading up to the war. In many respects whilst reading the book, which is now almost 1oo years after the war ended, one cannot help but acknowledge Russell’s writing to be almost prophetic as to what will come in the years following the books first release. Readable and well-thought, this book should be considered necessary for familiarising oneself with the pre-existing events that can occur prior to a politically colossal transformation.

The Conforming Pleaser of Crowds
A people-pleaser (or person-pleaser) will make any attempt to satisfy an arbitrary desire espoused by another individual in the hopes of being perceived in a positive way as a return. Driven by insecurity, the person-pleaser will sacrifice the self to be accepted by each person they encounter. A crowd-pleaser will instead focus on what a…
On Finding Existential Meaning Without Occupation

On the Modern Use of Ancient Philosophy
Ancient philosophical schools that I find more appealing are ones that assess ethics (axiology). Much of what is professed on grounds of axiology in the schools of Stoicism and Cynicism, for example, can be of use regardless of the age of these philosophies. In particular, when one explores the life of Diogenes, one can see…
Label Fetishism: Tribal Ideologies and the Politics of Double Standards
In February 2024, The Guardian published an article stating, “Criticising Israel doesn’t mean we’re anti-Semitic.” While I agree with this sentiment, it is hard to ignore the glaring double standard here. This is a display of hypocrisy from a media outlet that will not hesitate to accuse individuals of racism for criticising the ideology of…
Thinking Too Much and The Harm It Causes
What brings about more anxiety over hypothetical matters are thoughts that which persist before an event arises. This event or scenario can be an upcoming reality or even a hypothetical situation. This method of thinking is usually maintained by questions beginning with “what if” – the precursor to incessant worry. Our worry mechanism that resides…
