Why does the moon orbit the earth; earth the sun; and so on. There are scientific answers to these questions yet people are looking for existential answers. There aren’t any. That makes a lot of people uncomfortable. We are an accident in spacetime; only by mere probability have we become conscious beings. The fact that we are being at all is a result of the chance positioning of the planet in the goldilocks zone orbiting the sun. These facts aren’t what most people want to here. People fear the conclusion towards purposelessness as they erroneously believe their existence exemplifies much more and this is when people turn to myth, make-believe, social climbing and religion.

Following the second part of the medical, I failed the eye test due to a lifelong deformity in my left eye (esotropia). Many years later, my views on life, society and work have changed and, one might…

The Dark Side of Social Standards
Mores and folkways shape cultural expectations, regardless of their position on the hypothetical moral spectrum. But what exactly are they? People consider a norm to be innocuous. It establishes a standard that dictates whether an act is permissible or to be avoided. I would prefer to label this standard as a Universally Accepted Confirmation Bias.…
